This is a short post about doing nothing perfectly. Do you need to make a life changing decision? Are you unsure about were you are right now? Do you feel like things are moving too fast and if you don’t do something soon it will be too late? The best thing to do is, nothing.
We are in so much hurry to do things and go places and say stuff and often times, this leaves us more confused that before. It’s good to stop once in a while and focus. Even the good book tells us to “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls” Jeremiah 6:16.
Someone said that if you find yourself in a hole, the best thing to do is to stop digging. We don’t need Wikipedia to tell us what will happen if we don’t stop digging. And so, in a system where everything is spinning so fast and you either spin with it or be trampled, we need to learn the art of dong nothing-for a little while.
I respect people who put things on hold until they are sure that they want to move on with it. Because the other side of that is those who keep going and then at one point realize that they were never supposed to be there, doing that with this person (or people). And then they get depressed.
So, are you in a relationship that you aren’t sure you want to pursue due to various factors? Stop. Take time and think. Are you in a job that you aren’t sure is taking you anywhere in terms of you goals and passion? Stop. And think. Are you torn between things that could affect your life in any way? Do you just swallow food without really tasting it and enjoying it? STOP. This life is supposed to be enjoyed with ease, why else do we have taste buds?
We need to learn the art of doing nothing, for a little while. This will help us avoid a lot of grief later and also ensure we move on with a clear head and a stronger resolve. The stopping will cost you, no doubt, but then again, what is a great life without sacrifices?
I’ve had to stop many times to think and do things the right way. I can tell you, it has always been worth the while. So, before you make your new year resolutions, stop. Take time to do nothing but think and pray. That way, the resolutions will go beyond 2nd January. I guarantee you.
Have a silent reflective Christmas and a sober new year 🙂
