WHO’S THE CENTER?

jesu

There is a God shaped hole in every heart. There is only one person that fits in, God. Many times we try to fill it with many things – money, lovers, sex (legal or otherwise), food, ambitions, careers … almost anything under the sun.

All the time, these things (and people) seem like they are temporarily filling the void. There is a momentary sense of satisfaction, a time when we feel like all is well and we have this false sense of security.

The key word here is false. There is NOTHING that can fill that hole, despite how many yoga classes we attend and attempt to get to nirvana. Or how many movies we watch to try and get out of this world or how many songs we listen to try drift way. We will still be empty. And searching.

You are not just a creation, you are a workmanship. Now, I know English came by ship and we are forgiven for throwing words around whose meaning we do not fully understand. Like workmanship. So, I’ll be your walking dictionary.

Imagine you are an artist. You like to scribble things once in a while. You throw the paint here and there on a piece of canvas. You come with something…umm…weird. Is that a masterpiece? No.

Or imagine you are the same artist. You need to paint something, something great. The best thing your genius head can create, something never seen before. So you put your genius to work and skillfully put paint to canvas. Hours later, you have this wonderful, out-of this-world painting. You know it’s great, you can present even to the king with a smile on your face. You think it’s the best painting ever made, and everyone agrees. That is your workmanship.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Now you have your English straightened out and know what that means. You are a work of art, a wonder, the very best God ever made. And all creation agrees.

You are the glory of God, his very object of pride. The only thing you need to do is let him be the epicenter of your life. The very center. And you really don’t have a choice with that, if you ask me.

And because I know you won’t, I’m going to tell you anyway. Nothing ever gives peace like having God right where he is supposed to be. Stop trying too hard to be okay with everyone and everything else. You just need to be okay with one. God.

There, I set the record straight.
